Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Diagon Alley media preview review

E-mail Print PDF

Here's TDS' review of the media preview of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Diagon Alley at Universal Orlando Resort, from correspondent Kevin from --

My experience at the Diagon Alley preview was one like no other. Upon entering after   the red carpet event, I was cordially greeted by costumed wizards who never broke character   and spoke as if they came straight out of the movies, and also by a fire-breathing dragon. No   seriously, the dragon atop Gringotts Bank, presumably the main attraction of Diagon Alley, was   the most amazing addition to the atmosphere of the place. It was timed to breathe colored fire   and roar every 15-20 minutes, and it was amazing to feel the heat from the ground, adding thrill   to the experience.

The media were invited to taste test the food all the stores had to offer, including The  Leaky Cauldron, Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlour, etc. It was great to see all the food   was themed, like at The Leaky Cauldron the name titles for the food & drinks were all relative to   the movies and books, as well as in the ice cream shop where they served a specialty,  Butterbeer ice cream. My favorite would definitely have to be the fish & chips at The Leaky   Cauldron because it added to the English authenticity of the place. The food and service were   nothing short of excellent, and it was cool to see some of the Harry Potter cast members   casually walking around and exploring it for themselves.

Speaking of the Harry Potter cast members, I got a little too excited seeing them in  person, and with no regret whatsoever, I had asked them politely for a selfie, which they were   all kind enough to agree to. I was so ecstatic after I got a picture with Tom Felton, as he is the   first celebrity I’ve ever met in person, and later that night I even got to take pictures with the   Phelps twins.

When I thought the night couldn’t possibly get any closer to a dream come true, the  wizards that were casually walking around began to hand out the new interactive wands to the   media. After grabbing one for myself, I was advised the wands work outside some of the stores   in Diagon Alley, as well as in Hogsmeade. The worker wizards showed me some of the   amazing spells you could try, like Tarantallegra, Wingardium Leviosa, Descendo, and more!   The next day I tested the spells outside the stores of Hogsmeade too, and it completely   astounded me.

Overall, Diagon Alley was an amazing place to check out, as it had great caution to  detail, lively actors, authentic themed food, replicas of actual stores in the books and movies,   and tons of activities to do. I unfortunately was not one of the lucky few who could experience   the new ride at Gringotts Bank, but I’m definitely coming back one day to finally try it when it   opens.
